Celebrating the Kiln: New Ashgate Gallery & Crafts Study Centre present Arjan van Dal
Ceramicist, Arjan van Dal's functional ware is inspired by 12th to 17th century Jingdezhen monochrome porcelain and modernist design. He discusses his influences, motivations and ceramics training in Holland while demonstrating the full kiln firing process.
The Crafts Study Centre and the New Ashgate Gallery work together on a number of projects including their roles as partners in the Crafts Council’s Hothouse programme, which fosters the careers of emerging makers. One such maker is the ceramicist Arjan van Dal, who participated in the 2016 cohort and leads an open studio and artist’s talk in his studio.
Arjan van Dal's most recent work is also on display at his London studio, where ‘austerity of form meets a refined touch’.
