Conserving the Great Clock of Westminster: Big Ben
The Houses of Parliament host a talk, giving visitors the opportunity to meet the dedicated team of clockmakers who maintain Britain’s most famous and iconic clock, the Elizabeth Tower – Big Ben.
This one hour lunchtime lecture will commence promptly at 12.30pm on Friday 5th May and will provide an insight into the mechanics of how the Great Clock works, the problems that arise maintaining a 157-old clock, the method of making new parts and restoring old ones and the tools that are used by the team. Guests will also learn about the history of casting and the people who made the original clock.
Ticket holders are welcome to enter the estate from 12 noon – Visitors will be required to pass through airport style security. Ticketing for this free event opens at 9am on Wednesday 5th April by phone on 0207 219 4114. Limited availability.
