The inventors of the wicker picnic basket, the talented makers at GW Scott demonstrate the detail that goes into making one of their luxury wicker picnic baskets from the willow grown in Somerset.

GW Scott opened its first store in London, England in 1661. In 1851 the company invented the wicker picnic basket, which was both a revolutionary product and very much of-the-time. It was first shown during the Great Exhibition, which was held in Crystal Palace of Hyde Park in Central London.

The wicker is grown next to where the baskets are woven. The same family have grown wicker for GW Scott for over 150 years. All products in these hampers are made in the UK by crafts people. The ceramics are made exclusively for GW Scott in Stoke and London. The Crystal is made to the GW Scott design with the best English Crystal maker and the cutlery is made in Sheffield.
