A talk that brings together six leading letter carvers; Charlotte Howarth, Martin Cook, Annet Stirling, Wayne Hart, Tom Perkins and Lois Anderson. In a panel discussion, the artists examine the inspiration and process that leads to the finished result as well as the technical challenges encountered along the way.

The studio is also open throughout the day, with demonstrations and a showcase of the artists working drawings and finished pieces.

Though their work is found in private homes, gardens and public buildings across the country, the artists skills are seldom acknowledged. This event showcases the hard-won skills that have been handed down through generations. The artists reveal their working drawings and discuss their approach to a variety of commissions from garden artworks to architectural commissions, unusual memorials and public works.

The Lettering Arts Trust is an independent charity which champions Britain’s rich heritage in the lettering arts, from letter carving to calligraphy.  They raise awareness of this important tradition and manage a portfolio of training opportunities to pass on the time-honoured skills to tomorrow’s artists. They help clients interested in commissioning a lettered work of art, using their register of some of the finest letter carvers in the country.
