Vestment and Altar Frontals at Southwark Cathedral
A rare chance for visitors to see the needlework and embroidery of vestments that are used for Southwark Cathedral’s services. The collection includes the Diamond Jubilee Copes and Bishop Talbot’s Vestments from 1905. There is an opportunity to view embroidery demonstrations throughout the evening.
There is also embroidery demonstrations throughout the evening with the Cathedral Broderers, who are on hand to talk to visitors about their role at the Cathedral and demonstrate the work they carry out for the Dean and Chapter. Cathedral guides explain why the clergy wear vestments and the meaning and the role they still play in the 'theatre' of church.
