About
A journey through the ages of time, Achille Salvagni’s new film ‘Shapes in the Echo of Time’ reveals the story behind some of the Italian designer’s most remarkable pieces. The film is presented for the first time during London Craft Week, and showcased alongside the pieces it highlights at Achille Salvagni’s gallery in Mayfair. The designs featured comprise the Emerald side table, the Circeo screen, the Hera cabinet, the Divo floor lamp and the Spider chandelier.
Directed and written by Andrea Marini, the film is composed of five segments, with each looking at one particular work in relation to its surroundings and how it soon becomes an embodiment of the space itself.
‘Shapes in the Echo of Time’ depicts a circular tale, which starts from the simplest figure — the polygon of the Emerald coffee table — inserted into an environment where no geometry prevails. It ends on the ultimate synthesis of the form, where the context no longer has influence on the object and allows it to exist on its own — symbolised here by Achille’s signature piece, the Spider chandelier.
Achille Salvagni comments: ‘The catalyst for this project came from the desire I’d had for a while to translate all the inspiration and craftsmanship that shape my objects into a unique concept. The idea of a film soon emerged as an obvious choice to capture the somewhat abstract process I wanted to convey.’
