Meet the makers, artists and engineers of South London Makerspace and join taster sessions and workshops including a midnight maker experience. Explore a variety of crafts, from wood turning to electronics, and demonstrations in 3D printing to prop making.

Nestled in a Victorian railway arch in Herne Hill, South London Makerspace is a not-for-profit social community workshop built and run by its diverse members. Its facilities cover everything from hand saws to 3D printers, sewing machines to laser cutters. As part of the modern maker movement, South London Makerspace believes high-end making techniques should be available to all, and that passion, curiosity and enthusiasm are exemplary qualifications.

With over 330 members, from creative beginners to internationally exhibited creators and audio engineers, their broad nature of craftsmanship embraces both analogue and digital technologies equally. Members create works across the wide breadth of the creative spectrum: traditional jewellery, wood turning, computer-designed lamps, assistive electronics, home automation and all that’s in between.

With the close proximity of such contrasting disciplines and enthusiasms, members quickly pick up new skills away from their comfort zones. This allows for cross-pollinated creativity and experimental results attributed to having 3D printing, textiles, and electronics side-by-side in a compact workshop.

Workshops in leatherworking with Chanelle Joseph, jewellery making (coin-derived jewellery with Jonty Bottomley and make your own ring with Charlotte Couttie), laser engraving with Petra and laser-cutting wood-block textile printing with Charlotte Couttie are all available to book via the website.

Taster sessions of wood turning and simple electronics, among others, and demonstrations and showcases of wood turning, 3D printing, prop making, interactive games and printing are also available, plus laser cutting, electronics, making with code and game making.
