Blue Innovations: Contemporary Czech Indigo Prints
Blue Innovations highlights the creative potential and established craftsmanship of indigo textile-printing production in the Czech Republic. Designer and maker Alice Klouzkova talks about indigo printing techniques and leads a workshop using indigo-dyed material to create fashion accessories.
The exhibition introduces traditional Czech indigo printing techniques for decorating fabric and the only two remaining block-printing workshops in the Czech Republic via photography, video and the components used for printing. It also showcases contemporary indigo block-printing production in the Czech Republic featuring the work of Alice Klouzková, who employs traditional skills and techniques to create exceptional, high quality handmade items in collaboration with some of the most talented and specialised craftspeople in the country.
‘The purpose of my work is to prove that indigo print is not fated to die out, but can exist as a functional part of contemporary fashion design.’ –Alice Klouzkova
Alice Klouzkova gives an introductory talk at the opening of the exhibition, and a Saturday morning workshop exploring the traditional techniques and their transfer to modern applications in fashion and applied arts. The workshop’s participants have the opportunity to work with the indigo-dyed fabric to create fashion accessories.
