Caroline Broadhead in Conversation with Andrew Marsh at Marsden Woo Gallery
Caroline Broadhead discusses her diverse and pioneering practice, as well as her current solo show, Surface Tension, at Marsden Woo Gallery.
Marsden Woo Gallery has shown innovative work from internationally recognised artists and talented newcomers since its founding in 1998. Located in Belgravia, they offer specialist services including private sales and art consultancy, as well as a varied exhibition programme reflecting the wide scope of their creative network.
Gallery artist Caroline Broadhead's practice brings the unusually autonomous areas of jewellery, textiles and performance art into close relationship. She describes her work as ‘mainly driven by ideas, but making and materials are an integral part of the process. You can’t make things without considering the craft of it’. Public collections featuring her work include the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; the Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto; and the V&A, London. She hosted major retrospectives at CODA, The Netherlands in 2018, and at Lethaby Gallery, London in 2019. A Central Saint Martins alumna, Caroline held the positions of Jewellery and Textiles Programme Director and BA Jewellery Design Course Leader for nearly ten years at the University until her retirement in 2018, and is now Professor Emerita.
