Family company Castañuelas del Sur demonstrates castanet-making at the Embassy of Spain. Accompanied by a performance by flamenco artist and choreographer Elisa Pérez-Saponi de Worthington and guitarist Ramón Ruíz.
Castañuelas del Sur was established in Seville in the 1980s by brothers Jose & Juan Vela. Today, two of their granddaughters, Mamen & Laura, are in charge of the company, making castanets for famous flamenco artists and dance schools.
The Spanish flamenco artist and choreographer Elisa Pérez-Saponi de Worthington plays different types of castanets during the evening. The guitarist Ramón Ruíz accompanies Elisa, performing compositions of classical and flamenco guitar music.
