Discover how the techniques used today in creating exquisite items of contemporary silver can also been found in the spectacular items of the Wellington Collection’s historic silver on display. Visitors can discover the world of contemporary silver as part of daytime visit or join an exclusive evening reception.
Meet silversmith Alice Fry, who is demonstrating the techniques of chasing and repoussé in the entrance hall, and explore the rooms to encounter other contemporary makers showing and talking about their work.
Contemporary British Silversmiths is dedicated to maintaining and advancing the historic craft of silversmithing within the context of contemporary design. It encourages innovation and the sharing of skills to ensure the future of contemporary silver and supports established and emerging makers in their careers.
The Wellington Collection is an internationally important collection of paintings, silver and porcelain. Many of the items were presented to the 1st Duke of Wellington after Waterloo. It includes the Portuguese Centrepiece, one of the finest pieces of neo-classical silver in Europe, which took 150 men four years to create.
