Code/Craft/Chaos: Beautility in the Digital Age
Design agency Here explores what’s possible when craftsmanship and coding collide. From pixel to piece of art, experience the soulful fusion of clever sustainable materials and machine power through a selection of generative works designed by code and crafted by hand.
About
Born of randomness, created by code, curated by man.
Every art form is challenged with evolution. But the ancient art of crafting, of making things by hand, perhaps most of all. But what if code could be crafted — and craft, coded? What if seemingly random algorithms could be curated and made meaningful by human intuition?
Working at the intersection of tech and tactility, Here Design has transformed digitally generated patterns into crafted pieces of art using sustainable materials. In so doing, they seek to answer the question: what does the rise of computer algorithms mean for human craft and ‘Beautility’, the art of making good things desirable? Join them to discover how the randomness of code can be harnessed to create one-of-a-kind tapestries, screen prints and ceramics, and even inform musical compositions and poetry.
