ColoRing by Jo Nagasaka for Artek at The Conran Shop, Marylebone
The Conran Shop proudly presents the UK exclusive of Jo Nagasaka’s ColoRing collection for Artek. Designed in celebration of the centenary of Finnish-Japanese relations, and featuring Artek classics such as the Stool 60 and Bench 153B, each piece is treated with Nagasaka’s uniquely colourful ColoRing technique.
2019 marks the 100-year anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and Japan. Artek, a quintessentially Finnish company, uses the centenary to explore the relationship between the two countries with a creative fusion. The result is Artek’s FIN/JPN Friendship Collection, which launched at Salone de Mobile, Milan in April 2019.
Jo Nagasaka’s fresh approach to traditional Japanese craft is renowned for its novel and contemporary expression. As a result, the Tokyo-based architect and designer was a natural partner for Artek’s FIN/JPN Friendship Collection. Jo set out to apply his research on surface treatments to Artek’s beloved classics. He combines the age-old practices of Udukuri and Tsugaru-nuri into his own original process, resulting in what he’s named ColoRing.
