About
Taking inspiration from the Design Museum’s upcoming exhibition ‘Ai Weiwei: Making Sense’, this one-day workshop is an opportunity to have an immersive pottery experience trying a wide range of techniques and approaches.
Discover the tactile material of clay and its various properties and enjoy a day of hands-on exploration, from creating pinch pots to wheel throwing and crafting tools.
This workshop introduces participants to the concept of repetition and ‘make and break’ in the clay design process. Starting with the physical process of preparing clay to making pinch pots into functional whistles and having a go on a potter’s wheel, participants can discover the powerful creative experience of making without fear or failure.
Participants learn:
- Hand-building techniques
- Slip decorating
- Toll making
- How to centre on the potter’s wheel
- Gain an insight into the clay-making creative process
Light refreshments and all materials are provided. The workshop also gives you same-day access to the exhibition ‘Ai Weiwei: Making Sense’.
