John Boyd opened his shop in Knightsbridge in 1947 and quickly grew to be one of London’s best-loved milliners. Gaining much acclaim for his hats for Princess Diana, John Boyd developed a loyal and discerning clientele, who recognised his hats as elegant, fun and striking, made with care and attention to detail.
‘I like to design for the women’s unique and individual look, regardless of time or fashion. The face dictates the hat.’ John Boyd MBE
The workroom continues in much the same way today, with everything handmade on site using traditional millinery techniques and equipment. The atelier is an Aladdin’s cave of beautiful creations, many made using treasured materials which have been collected over the decades. Since John’s death in 2018, the label has continued under the guidance of Sarah Marshall, who worked alongside John Boyd for the last 14 years.
The Ascot 2019 collection is on view during the evening and guests are invited to admire and try on these handmade works of art.
