Lessons in Love: Handcrafted Metaphorical Shoe Installation by Jo Cope at YKK London Showroom
Opening Reception & Performance, booking necessary, 100 places, free
Exhibition, booking not necessary, free
Artist Jo Cope partners with YKK London Showroom to create a conceptual fashion installation and opening night performance. Shoes are vessels and provocateurs to explore life metaphors, pushing shoe-making to its limits.
Both the installation and performance explore the complex subject of love and its parallels with addiction and relationships. The installation narrates this journey using a series of handcrafted metaphorical objects. Pieces are created using leather and wood by adapting and extending aspects of traditional shoe-making techniques.
The opening night performance is an experimental collaboration with Antonio de la Fe, a Spanish choreographer and performer based in London with a background in physiotherapy. Jo and Antonio’s interest in working with and around the body, alongside their progressive relationship to their practices, makes them an exciting match in exploring the relationship between conceptual footwear and dance.
