LOT 1: A Collaboration Between Jed Green, Sarah Pulvertaft and Beatrice Mayfield at Retrouvius
Jewellers Jed Green and Sarah Pulvertaft and embroiderer Beatrice Mayfield combine their skills and aesthetics to create new work exploring materials. On Saturday 11 May, hear them in conversation with curator Annabelle Campbell discussing their processes and experiences.
LOT 1 is a collaboration between Sarah Pulvertaft, Jed Green and Beatrice Mayfield. Between them they use a diverse range of materials: precious and non-precious, resistant and non-resistant, uncommon and everyday, which they transform into beautifully crafted, unique pieces.
LOT 1 focuses on each of the maker’s respective responses to materials. Over a set period they produced three pieces in collaboration. Each started a piece, which was passed on, with the next responding to the given elements. There was little discussion between them, choosing to reply directly through the work rather than designing as a trio. This has pushed them creatively and encouraged them to work both within and beyond their normal ways and to examine their usual methods.
These pieces, alongside a new body of work from each of them, form an installation sited within Retrouvius’ architectural salvage warehouse to create a materially sumptuous exhibition environment.
