About

Soluna Art Group, a leading craft-focused gallery in Seoul, presents works by Dahye Jeong, winner of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize 2022. Inspired by traditional Korean headwear, Dahye works with horsehair, weaving this ancient material into delicate, transparent vessels.

About Dahye Jeong
Dahye Jeong was born on the island Jeju in the furthest southern part of the Korean peninsula. Historically, the island has been known for its natural resources, particularly the sea and the Halla Mountain, as well as the strength and resilience of its female community. Dahye has this resilient nature within her. She takes her inspiration from ancient Korean headwear, worn by men in the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910). Crafted from horsehair, these were made for different purposes and come in many different shapes. Dahye studied the headwear and developed her own method of working, particularly in her approach to weaving. Based on different historical weaves, she creates vessel shapes.
The jury for the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize unanimously selected her work because of its sensitivity and unmatched finesse. Each piece is the result of painstaking patience and time. A certain kind of mindset is needed to be able to complete a single vessel. The exhibition is named after the three main traits that create Dahye Jeong’s art: ‘Mind, Hand and Time’.
