Myth and Mortality: The Fairy-Tale World of Carolein Smit
Booking not necessary, free
Join Dutch contemporary artist Carolein Smit for an afternoon talk exploring her fantastical work. Drawing inspiration from religious art, mythology and fairy tales of all cultures, Smit creates highly seductive works with strong emotional impact. The exhibition continues until Sunday 30 September.
Common to all Caroline’s sculptures is their sublime surface treatment in clay and glaze, often featuring countless repeated elements such as strands of hair, tears, drops of blood or feathers. The display brings together some of her latest creations, including a spectacular site-specific wall installation exploring death and the afterlife. In this talk, Carolein discusses the inspiration and themes behind her work, as well as revealing more about her practice and techniques.
