Maria Leoni-Sceti, founder and creative director of luxury jewellery and accessories brand Sonia Petroff, discusses the journey of bringing her aunt Sonia’s 1960s and 1970s archive back to life. The talk examines the statement pieces within their historical context and showcases the exuberant ways to style these pieces for modern dressing.
In 2015, Maria inherited the design archives of her aunt Sonia Petroff, who designed jewellery for Valentino, Balmain and Nina Ricci in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, as well as creating her own line of jewellery and accessories for the beau monde of the era. Setting out at first to make a coffee table book of the distinctive and beautiful vintage pieces, Maria began a journey that would see her bring the Sonia Petroff brand back to life.
This event sees Maria joined by Bay Garnett, sustainability champion and Tona Stell, Telegraph’s Style Director to discuss Sonia’s distinctive styles within the context of mid-20th century statement jewellery, the recent renaissance of vintage-inspired 1970s styles and the timeless appeal and versatility of statement pieces in today’s wardrobe.
