Join Maria Speake (Retrouvius Design Studio and practice) and Henry Krokatsis (artist, sculptor and owner of Queensrollahouse) in conversation with Ruth Lang (Author of Building for Change: The Architecture of Creative Reuse) discussing their individual practices of reusing and reimagining materials to create new spaces.

RUTH LANG
Dr Ruth Lang is an architect, curator, and writer, whose work explores how the processes of contemporary architectural practice can better respond to the Climate Emergency. This research led to the publication of “Building for Change: the Architecture of Creative Reuse” with gestalten. She has exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Jerwood Gallery, and is currently a research fellow for the Future Observatory at the Design Museum.

MARIA SPEAKE
Maria Speake leads the design studio at Retrouvius. Founded to help stoke imagination and inspiration, our ambition is to satisfy our clients, but also to educate them. We offer simple, practical advice that helps empower people to understand how buildings are made and how materials are used. Taking only a few interior and architectural projects each year, the studio applies the Retrouvius ethos to all types of buildings. In the simplest terms, Retrouvius reuses materials, furniture, lighting and fixtures, to continue their life in the architectural and interior projects that we design.

HENRY KROKATSIS
Henry Krokatsis works with a wide range of materials, from found wood to smoke, used votive candles and old mirrors. Despite their disparate nature, his works share a profound commonality; in liquifying then reconfiguring these discarded materials, the works test our assumptions about function, value and status. Krokatsis has an MA from teh Royal College of Art and is the owner of Queensrollahouse studio in Park Royal.
