The Art of Weaving. Huguenot Supper Cloth: A Communal Embroidery Project by Stitch School

A communal embroidery project inspired by the Huguenot weavers of 19th-century Spitalfields. Join Stitch School around the Supper Cloth table on the market floor at Old Spitalfields Market and help co-create a linen panel based on a historical Huguenot silk weave pattern.

About

Old Spitalfields Market hosts a communal embroidery project inspired by the Huguenot weavers of 19th-century Spitalfields, in collaboration with Stitch-School.

The project invites the general public to join together to participate in a piece of communal embroidery over six days. The large linen panel, measuring 220cm x 100cm, is based on a historical Huguenot silk weave pattern, paying homage to the history of the area and its rich textile weaving history.

Using the glorious surroundings and history of the market to inspire creativity and conversation, the outcome will be a richly embroidered textile banner and piece of art that will be displayed in the community.
