About

TOAST has collaborated with textile artist Jacob Monk to present an ikat exhibition at their Newburgh Street, Carnaby menswear shop. See Jacob’s installation and watch him weaving ikat fabric on a large-scale loom in response to the lifestyle brand’s seasonal theme, ‘Elemental Compositions’.

Jacob studied at Central Saint Martins and now works from his studio at Cockpit Arts in south-east London. He creates rich and vibrant textiles using variations of the ancient ikat technique, where yarns are bound and dyed before being woven, creating hazy patterns. There is a curated exhibition of Jacob’s framed works for you to see if you drop in at the TOAST Shop.

Jacob is also hosting paper-weaving workshops to demonstrate different techniques and experiment with composition, pattern and colour. The workshops are open to all – no previous weaving experience is required. The paper weavings are made out of recycled paper and materials from the TOAST production process, to reduce impact on the environment in line with the brand’s Social Conscience commitments.
