Studio Tour: Masters of Leatherworking

Cockpit Arts is home to some of the UK’s foremost craftspeople working in leather today. Join this exclusive behind-the-scenes tour to discover four makers each with a distinctive take on this versatile material.

Inspired by the nearby Greenwich Meridian, Charlie Laurie’s Meantime Collection is an innovative modern take on timeless designs. Yusuf Osman, founder of handsewn leather goods label Yussico, combines making refined handsewn leather goods with a flair for teaching his craft. Pairing vegetable tanned leathers with uncomplicated forms, Harry Owen’s pieces draw attention the natural beauty within the material. Frances Pinnock’s practice explores the possibilities of oak bark leather as a medium for sculpture.

Studio Tour: Ceramic Art Today

The rise of ceramics in contemporary art is seemingly unstoppable. Join three leading ceramic artists in their studios to discover how each is pushing the boundaries of work in clay. Featuring Nico Conti, Leah Jensen and Anja Lubach.

Leah Jensen uses ceramics as a canvas, unearthing hidden geometric structures that reside beneath the surface of Renaissance paintings. Anja Lubach’s work explores the smooth, translucent and pure material properties of porcelain through experimental manipulation of the soft clay surface. Using a 3D printing machine to create delicate yet strong works in porcelain, Nico Conti’s practice is defined by intersecting technology with tradition.
