Arra Textiles was launched in 2016 by Lucy MacDonald who studied Design for Textiles at Heriot Watt University in her native Scotland and Turku University of Applied Sciences in Finland. With inspiration drawn from rugged seascapes and landscapes, each bespoke piece Lucy produces has been designed and created in her carbon neutral Arra Textiles studio on Royal Deeside, in the northeast of Scotland.
Arra Textiles has a strong design signature with a complex, contemporary twist, blending yarn shades and weave structures to dramatic effect; essentially telling a story through cloth. With a considered narrative, Lucy uses natural, traceable materials with an emphasis on heritage techniques, to create unique pieces of heirloom quality, with craftsmanship and feeling at the heart of each design. She has a strong commitment to sustainability, and feels that by using natural, traceable materials and processes she can contribute, albeit in a small way. Lucy is happy to design and make craft pieces to order.
Arra Textiles has been a member of Design-Nation since 2019.
