Nottingham-based Blue Firth is a trained artist graduating with a Masters in Fine Art from the Royal Academy Schools. Her work is exhibited regularly in the UK and across Europe, pivoting from graphic design and screen-printed pieces to textural, quietly decorative ceramics. In a bid to increase her process-based work with clay, and a desire to work more with her hands, Blue set up her own studio two years ago.
Blue’s hand-thrown homewares are created using a raku firing technique. The natural colour palette lends a timelessness to her pieces. She uses horsehair in this process, which yields expressive, feathery smoke marks onto the surface of the clay. Her heavy-footed bowls are striking sculptures that can also serve to function in our daily rituals.
