About
Christopher Guy creates extensive collections of exceptional furnishings, designed and expertly crafted in sumptuous Java ateliers. The company was founded over 25 years ago by the late furniture great, Christopher Guy Harrison, and CG pieces are designed to transcend modern, traditional and cultural boundaries. An uncompromising sense of style and a seam of elegance have ensured that CG redefines the aesthetics of design, leading the company to be known as “Creators of the World’s most Fabulous Lifestyles” and epitomising “A Contemporary Mood with Timeless Values”.
The Christopher Guy workshops in Central Java cover more than one million square feet, nestled harmoniously amongst the lush Javanese landscape. Those who first set eyes on the site believe it to be a vast, centuries old, Moorish castle. In fact, this unique structure was designed to reflect the sense of mystique and drama prevalent in the collections. Behind these weathered façades lies a state-of-the-art facility, the workplace to around two thousand of the world’s finest craftspeople. Here, the skills used to create the exquisite CG pieces include carving, gilding, finishing in veneers, lacquering, hand painting, rattan weaving, mosaic making, metalwork and upholstery.
Signature designs include the patented Criss-cross leg design, inspired by the waistline of Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the Wind and the pose of a ballerina. Other signature elements include the ‘silk cut’, which features on many chairs, tables and cabinets; the hand-carved knot, used to beautiful effect as handles; and the diamond shaped feet.
Once beautifully crafted in the Christopher Guy workshops, with all aspects of the design and production expertly carried out in-house, the pieces are shipped globally to grace the grandest hotels, most spectacular resorts and the world’s finest residences.
