Glenn Bartley

Glenn Bartley has been binding books professionally for over 40 years. Having studied at Guildford College, he then worked for a bindery in Oxford for five years and established his own bindery in Culham, Oxfordshire in 1991.

Elected a Fellow of Designer Bookbinders in 1999, he has exhibited his contemporary bookbindings worldwide. In 1996, he won the DB Silver Medal (Mansfield Medal) and 1st Prize Fine Binding category for professional binders in the 2005 Society of Bookbinders International Competition.

Glenn has worked on a wide variety of material for clients from Oxford University to private collectors and institutions around the world. He has also demonstrated and lectured widely on the traditional techniques of binding, particularly gold tooling and vellum covering.

In 2017, after 26 years of self-employment, he embarked on a new adventure as bookbinder at The Royal Bindery in Windsor Castle, and in 2019 was promoted to Head of The Royal Bindery.
