Hervé Obligi

Hervé Obligi started working with wood before studying the glyptic and creating his studio in 1985. He is one of the last specialist of hard stone marquetry in Europe and was appointed Maître d’art* by the French Minister of Culture in 2015. Numerous restorations have been assigned to him (the Palais Princier de Monaco, the Château de Versailles, the Louvre, the Quai d’Orsay, French embassies abroad, the United Nations). He works for luxury jewelers and watchmakers such as Piaget and Cartier but also with decorators, architects, designers and art galleries. As a Maître d’art, he passes on his unique skills to Camille Berthaux and works together with him on contemporary master pieces renewing this ancient technique.

* Every two years, the French Minister of Culture appoints less than ten “Maîtres d’art” for their skills mastery and their commitment to pass on their techniques to another person. This apprenticeship may last up to three years.
