The Historic Furniture and Decorative Arts Team in the Houses of Parliament manages and cares for 11,000 items of historic furniture, silver, clocks and ceramics. This working collection mainly consists of Gothic Revival furniture designed by A.W.N. Pugin in the 1840s and 1950s items designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott.
The professional team of three has been in place for just over three years and consists of conservators and collection care specialists. Their skills involve cabinet making, documentation, archival research and preventative conservation.
The main aims of the team are to preserve the collection by reducing damage and carrying out audits, conserving and restoring items to their original design intent and increasing access to the collection online and onsite.
