Jacqui Ramrayka is a London-based ceramicist with a love of the vessel in its many forms. The idea of containment fascinates and continually challenges her and although shebegan my ceramics journey as a hand builder, shefound throwing on the wheel suited herexploration better.
As well natural and urban landscapes, Jacqui finds inspiration in the seemingly random and mundane –rusty metal tools, peeling layers of paint, found objects that suggest a fragment of a story. This stimulus is reflected in how she glazes her vessels; surfaces are gradually built through layers of glazes and multiple firing, ensuring each piece is unique. For Jacqui, crafts is very much about working through a processwith herhands, and developing deep understanding of her materials.
After completing her degree, Jacquifounded the ceramics studio Archway Ceramics, along with a group of fellow graduates. She combined working there with teaching until she had her family. Following astint at Kingsgate Workshops, shenow worksfrom herstudio at home, alongside running ceramics workshops for children and adults. She joined Design-Nation in 2019.
