Jane Short MBE is a well established designer enameller, producing items of enamelled silver, often to commission.
Fascinated by the particular luminous quality of colour of enamel, her work is an continual exploration of colour, pattern and texture on a three dimensional decorative silver canvas. Some of her pieces feature imagery and subtle colours taken from direct observation of pattern and form in the natural world, others play with colour and texture to produce more impressionistic, abstract work, and when working to commission, weave in imagery that has special significance to the client.
Trained in the 1970's in Jewellery Design at the Central School of Art and Design, and Silversmithing at the Royal College of Art, Jane has work in several major collections including the V&A, the Fitzwilliam and Ashmolean Museums, the Queens Collection, and the Goldsmiths' Collection. She has taught enamelling widely throughout her career, and has been awarded an MBE for services to the Craft of Enamelling. She is a Liveryman of the Goldsmiths' Company and currently lives and works in Brighton.
