About

“I combine hand and digital processes in my embroidered textiles to celebrate heritage techniques within interior and fashion contexts.”

Kamilah Ahmed creates embroidered textiles inspired by tradition. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, Kamilah draws inspiration from inherited traditional textile disciplines such as the art of Jamdani weaving. She reimagines the potential of hand making techniques through digital embroidery to create fresh and elaborate finishes.

A recipient of many awards and prizes (including The Worshipful Dyers’ Guild Travel Award, a Royal Needlemakers’ Bursary and the Monsoon Accessorize RCA Collaboration Prize), Kamilah joined Cockpit as the inaugural recipient of The New Craftsmen Award in 2021. The Award seeks to break down barriers for makers currently underrepresented in craft and bridge the gap between talent and opportunity.
