London-based artist and designer Kira Phoenix K’inan brings together fine art and craft though her glass sculptures, works on paper, installations and multi-exposure photography. Kira’s artwork explores the nature of drawing and how inter-twisting lines create works that are in a constant visual flux. While undertaking her Masters in Glass and Ceramics at the Royal College of Art she began making connections between drawing and glassworks. She also uses processes that allow her to deconstruct the original form and reconstruct objects through an abstracted lens.
The Oort Clouds series is a new body of work Kira has developed for The Future of Craft. This series takes inspiration from the shell of icy objects of the same name that are found on the outskirts of our solar system. These works bring together art, craft and science to create a series of unique glass objects that sit perfectly in any interior.
Kira was shortlisted for the Ashurst Emerging Artists Prize in 2019, has taken part in residencies in Stockholm and Edinburgh, and has exhibited globally, with a particular highlight being part of Emerge Bullseye 2018. She also has a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Central St Martins and joined the Design-Nation portfolio in 2019.
