About

Kpoene’ is the Creative Director of Mignonette Bridal and Ette the Wedding Tailor, Chicago’s award-winning destinations for vintage-inspired wedding gowns created with heirloom techniques. A graduate of FIT NYC and Middlebury College, Kpoene’ has been passionate about designing gowns to fit and flatter modern brides with vintage hearts since 2010. Kpoene’ is a multidisciplinary designer specializing in sustainable bridal wear that is impossibly romantic; She prefers to take the unusual approach in every aspect of her creative life, seeking inspiration from many disciplines to create work that celebrates the female figure and creates space for joy. Though the wedding industry is often both wasteful and lacking in inclusivity, Mignonette is proudly Black, LGBTQ+, and female-founded, with a commitment to social and environmental responsibility and a collaborative process – between the dress, the seamstresses, and the client – that exemplifies our mission to preserve individuality through beautiful work. With the new Bricolage project, Kpoene’ is excited to introduce zero-waste design to a broad audience, combining deadstock fabric and archival pieces to produce something beautifully new.
