Maria Hatling is an artist known for her mixed media paintings on canvas and paper. Her work is concerned with how we as human beings interact with each other. Mixing gestural abstraction with hard edge graphic elements and super-sized stitching, she has created a highly personal visual language. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections in the UK, USA, Netherland and Norway.
Born in South Korea, adopted to Norway, Maria spent her childhood growing up in Norway before moving to the UK to study and work. Before focusing on painting, Maria worked as textile designer for more than ten years. As a textile designer she has worked on commissions for clients like Heals, Tate Modern and Tate Liverpool. Her textile work has been exhibited at the Fashion and Textile museum in London. Maria works from her studio at Cockpit Arts in Holborn, Central London.
