About
Monica Tong is one of the winners of the Oxo Tower Wharf x Arts Thread Graduate Residency. This new initiative offers a complimentary studios at Oxo Tower Wharf for a four month period to graduate designer-makers.
Monica was born in Nanjing, raised in Shenzhen and Auckland. She studied and practised as a multi-media artist in Los Angeles prior to her study at The Royal College of Art. Her creative process has always been influenced by different cultures, local environments and ways of living. She investigates the poetic intervention of subtle human senses and emotions through objects made in ceramics, glass, and other media.
At the Oxo Tower Wharf studio, Monica is working collaboratively with other makers, experimenting with ceramics, hosting skill-share workshops as well as pop up exhibitions.
“By taking on further experiments and collaborations with other artists as well as showcasing our working process with the possibility of gaining instant feedback from the market, we can carry on working in the momentum after graduation.”
