Part of an emerging generation of ceramicists in Kasama, Shungo Nemoto has nevertheless spent many years perfecting his craft. In particular, his glaze style and forms are each the product of years of careful refinement and development.
One style that defines his work is a textural glaze style which can be translated to English as ‘frost scales’. The surface of the pieces is decorated with swimming cold amoeba that resemble the formation of ice. Nemoto combines these decorations with angular shapes of great presence that allow his work to stand out within the Kasama ceramics scene.
